SMOOTH OUT THE ROUGH SPOTS!
For pool surface surface preparation, wash the pool with Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP). DO NOT use a soap-type detergent. It can leave a film on the surface which will result in poor paint adhesion.
Acid etching is required on bare masonry surfaces like concrete or plaster. It is also effective for removing chalky residue and hard mineral deposits on a previously painted pool.
We highly recommend repeating STEP 1: Wash the surface again with the tri-sodium phosphate solution to neutralize any remaining acid on the surface.
Common Questions:
What kind of surfaces should you use the Gunite Primer on?
The Gunite Primer should be used on Fiberglass, Rough Plaster, New Gunite or Sandblasted surfaces.
Should I use a primer with the Super Poxy Paint?
The manufacturer does recommend priming the pool for proper adhesion.
Can this be applied to a wet surface?
Unlike In The Swim Water-Base Epoxy Primer, Gunite Primer can only be applied to a completely dry surface.
How much primer do I need?
Each gallon will cover approx. 100-150 sq ft, depending on porosity and roughness of surface and how thickly the primer is applied.
